Mark Larmee was born and raised in the Detroit area, and took an interest in recorded sound at a very young age. In high school he experimented with four-track recordings, documenting his own band’s practice sessions (Mark is a highly accomplished guitarist and bass player in his own right). During college, at Western Michigan University, he parlayed this love of recorded sound into two separate jobs: the most respected soundperson and recording engineer in Southwest Michigan.

Mark started doing sound in 2000 at Harvey’s on the Mall, and later moved to Club Soda for a brief tenure. It was his work at the Kraftbrau, however, that brought him national recognition as a first-rate sound engineer. Logging thousands of hours as the chief soundman for Kraftbrau, Mark would routinely record bands’ live performances, several of which have seen a wide release (including Love as Laughter, Pilot Scott Tracy, and Drums and Tuba, to name a few). His reputation is unparalleled, as evidenced by his many one-off gigs as soundman for such events as Rock the Vote at the Arcadia Festival Site, UFO Dictator’s annual rock party, most WIDR FM shows, and his new gig as soundman for The Strutt. Mark has done sound for over a thousand shows, a staggering number considering the location and size of Kalamazoo, MI.

Mark’s engineering skills in the studio are equally impressive. His work at Broadside Productions, as well as his own mobile-recording unit, has made him a sought-after engineer by a wide-ranging variety of bands and performance artists. He has logged over 700 hours, and worked with over 70 artists during his recording career. Mark’s recordings have been released on countless albums, and his skills as an engineer are in constant demand in the Southwest Michigan area.

Finally, it must be noted that Mark’s involvement in the music scene of Kalamazoo is most strongly felt in his direct involvement as the member of several notable bands. He has played with dozens of rock bands, including First to the Fence, Hornet, Spit for Athena, and most recently, Minutes. It has been said many times that Mark’s attention to detail “simply makes a good song better.” Mark’s work, as both a bassist and guitarist, is highly melodic, and always serves the greater good of the band itself.

Mark lives in Kalamazoo, MI. He enjoys wilderness camping, coffee, The Simpsons, and pizza. He is one of the good guys.
